England to Start Euro 2028 Quest at the Etihad Stadium
The English squad will embark on their Euro 2028 campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they achieve the relatively straightforward entry for a competition staged throughout the majority of the UK and the Ireland.
The Etihad Stadium has not welcomed an English men’s match since May 2016, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to stage the Three Lions for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.
The team are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley, but, if they top the preliminary round, their last-16 tie would be held at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean commencing the elimination stage at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Tournament Kickoff and Demonstration
The event was inaugurated at an ceremony in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. Senior figures from European football’s governing body and the host FAs were confronted as they entered the venue by approximately 50 activists, who demanded the Israeli team to be kicked out from international football because of the situation in Gaza.
Signs were raised with phrases stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists called out: “Kick Israel out.”
Tournament Fixture List
The first match of Euro 2028 will be played at the the national stadium of Wales in Cardiff, on a Friday in June 2028, a fixture that will involve the Dragons if they qualify.
The national stadium will host both semi-finals and the championship match, which will be staged on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at 5pm.
It is anticipated that an afternoon start, which will also be used for UEFA Champions League finals from the following campaign, will attract family audiences and help connect with a broader range of viewers.
Participating Countries
The Ireland are set to play their first game at the Dublin stadium and Scotland would do the same at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
All four host countries’ teams will take part in the preliminary stage; two guaranteed slots will be held in reserve for any that fail to qualify for Euro 2028 through the standard process.
Locations and Playoffs
The Birmingham venue and The North London arena round out the event’s nine venues. All will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarter-finals played at the national stadium of each host.
The draw for the qualifiers will be staged in Belfast, which was dropped as a host city last year when it became clear the proposed venue could not be renovated in time, on 6 December 2026.
