Donald Trump has declared he is raising import taxes on goods imported from Canadian sources after the province of the Ontario government ran an anti-tariff commercial using former President Reagan.

In a Truth Social message on Saturday, Donald Trump labeled the advertisement a "deception" and criticized Canada's leaders for not taking down it ahead of the World Series.

"Because of their major misrepresentation of the truth, and aggressive move, I am hiking the Tariff on Canada by ten percent over and above what they are being charged now," Trump posted.

Following Donald Trump on last Thursday ended trade negotiations with Canada, the Ontario premier said he would remove the advert.

Ontario Position

Ontario Premier Ford declared on Friday that he would pause his province's anti-tariff advertisement campaign in the US, advising the media that he made the decision after discussions with the Prime Minister Mark Carney "in order that commercial discussions can continue".

He also said it would continue to air over the weekend, featuring matches for the MLB finals, which includes the Toronto team facing the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Commercial Context

Canada is the only G7 state that has not achieved a arrangement with the America since the President started attempting to charge significant tariffs on goods from key commercial allies.

The US has earlier enforced a 35% duty on every Canada's goods - though the majority are free under an current commercial pact. It has also applied industry-specific taxes on Canadian items, including a 50 percent levy on steel and aluminum and 25% on cars.

In his post, posted while he was en route to Asia, the President seemed to say he was including 10 percentage points to the existing tariffs.

Seventy-five percent of Canada's exports are sent to the United States, and the region is host to the largest share of the nation's automobile manufacturing.

Ronald Reagan Ad Particulars

The advert, which was paid for by the Ontario government, quotes ex-President Ronald Reagan, a GOP member and icon of American conservatism, remarking import taxes "harm every American".

The commercial takes excerpts from a 1987-era national radio address that centered on global commerce.

The Ronald Reagan Foundation, which is charged with preserving the ex-president's memory, had condemned the commercial for using "selective" audio and video and stated it misrepresented Reagan's 1987 speech. It further noted the Ontario government had not obtained authorization to use it.

Ongoing Conflicts

In his update on social media on Saturday, Trump said that the advertisement should have been pulled down earlier.

"Their Advertisement was to be taken down IMMEDIATELY, but they let it run yesterday during the World Series, aware that it was a LIE," he wrote, while en route to Asia.

Doug Ford had previously promised to air the Ronald Reagan advertisement in all Republican-led district in the US.

The two Donald Trump and Mark Carney will be participating in the Southeast Asian summit in the Malaysian nation, but Donald Trump told journalists traveling with him aboard his aircraft that he does not have any "intention" of speaking with his Canadian PM during the trip.

In his post, the President also claimed Canadian officials of seeking to manipulate an future US Supreme Court case which could halt his whole tax system.

The legal matter, to be considered by the American judiciary soon, will decide whether the tariffs are constitutional.

On Thursday, the President also criticized, stating that the advert was created to "meddle" with "THE MOST IMPORTANT CASE EVER"

World Series Association

The Reagan commercial is not the exclusive way that the region – location of the Toronto Blue Jays – is using the World Series as a stage to criticize the President's tariffs.

In a recording shared on last Friday, the Premier and Gavin Newsom the Governor jokingly made bets about which team would succeed in the championship.

Each official repeatedly teased about duties in the recording, with the Premier pledging to provide the Governor a can of Canadian syrup if the Dodgers win.

"The import tax might set me back a few extra bucks at the border nowadays, but it'll be worth it," he stated.

In answer, the Governor requested Ford to resume permitting American-produced drinks to be available in Ontario beverage outlets, and vowed to deliver "the state's premium grape drink" if the Jays succeed.

They concluded their conversation together declaring: "Here's to a excellent World Series, and a tariff-free relationship between the province and CA."
